Cash-game

info

Definition

This is a form of poker where players buy in with a specific amount of real money (represented by chips) and play with those chips at a table. Unlike tournaments, there is no set end time in a cash game, and players can join or leave the game at any time, exchanging their chips for cash or leaving with their winnings. The chips in a cash game represent real money, and the blinds and betting structure remain constant throughout the game.

Notation

The notation NL100 is commonly used to denote a No-Limit Texas Hold'em cash game where the big blind is 1. In this context, the "100" represents 100 big blinds. So, if you're playing in an NL100 game, the maximum initial stack for each player would be 100. Players can start with up to 100 big blinds, and they can choose to buy in for a smaller amount if they prefer. A player can then exceed this limit by winning different hands.

The buy-in amounts for cash games can vary widely, and you'll often find different levels of games, such as NL2, NL5, NL50, NL200, or NL500, indicating different big blind amounts and corresponding maximum initial stacks. For example, the big blind for a NL5 would be 0.05 and the maximum initial stack 5.

Tip

It is advisable to always have at least the limit amount in your stack.
