UTG / Under The Gun

personposition

Definition

UTG stands for Under the Gun. It refers to the player sitting immediately to the left of the big blind in a hand. The UTG position is considered one of the earliest positions in the betting order during a hand, and the player in this position is the first to act preflop before seeing any community cards. The UTG player has the least amount of information about the strength of opponents' hands and typically faces a tougher decision due to the limited knowledge of other players' intentions.
